American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Renal PCU position requiring MO or compact RN license and 2 years of recent renal/telemetry specialty experience at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital.

Requirements
  • Active RN license, Kansas and Missouri or compact in hand at time of consideration
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • 2 years of recent renal/specialty experience required, including a full year within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days
  • Experience with renal transplant, PD catheters, hemodialysis management, drains, TPN, wound care, diabetes encephalopathy, acute renal rejection, and thymoglobulin administration required
  • Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience required
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols and renal failure management
  • Proficient in IV therapy and phlebotomy, including port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral line care, PICC line management, and IV starts
  • Experience with Heparin protocols and PCA medication administration
  • Skilled in nasal cannula and oxygen mask respiratory care
  • Experience with isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac management
  • Preferred experience with CVA care, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), tracheostomy management, and thymoglobulin titration
  • Charting system experience required (any EMR)
Responsibilities
  • PCU unit specializing in renal/transplant patient care
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15)
  • Patient ratio of 1:5, with rare flexing to 1:6
  • Transplant patients are cared for at a 2:1 ratio for the first 48 hours
  • Weekend requirement of 8 shifts within a 6-week scheduling period, combination of Friday/Saturday/Sunday
  • Charge RN assignments as needed per unit
  • Holiday shift coverage required
  • Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Epic charting system used
  • Contracted dialysis process in place, so hemodialysis is not performed directly by unit RNs
  • Provide specialized nursing care to renal and transplant patients in a PCU setting
  • Work within a 5-time Magnet-recognized, teaching, Level 1 Trauma tertiary care hospital with 456 staffed beds
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking provided
  • Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
  • RTO limited to a maximum of 7 days
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Returning staff must observe an 18-month tenure policy with a 3-month break in service
