Summary

The Quality Assurance Engineer is a hands‑on role supporting quality execution in a steel fabrication manufacturing environment. This position works directly on the production floor, partnering with manufacturing, engineering, and suppliers to ensure welding, coating, and product quality requirements are met. This role is ideal for someone who prefers solving problems in real time on the shop floor rather than working behind a desk.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and execute the facility Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with ISO 9001 standards
  • Maintain records and documentation including MTRs, COCs, and customer‑required certifications
  • Manage calibration and testing programs for measuring and inspection equipment
  • Support supplier qualification, audits, and resolution of supplier quality issues
  • Assist purchasing with supplier onboarding and quality evaluations
  • Oversee incoming material inspections and maintain inspection programs
  • Manage product quality assurance programs and approve product release
  • Develop and support method sheets outlining manufacturing procedures and process controls
  • Perform in‑process inspections including dimensional, weld, and coating inspections
  • Conduct or coordinate non‑destructive testing (NDT) and maintain inspection records
  • Oversee product testing, audits, and inspection activities
  • Coordinate off‑site testing including weld procedures, qualifications, and customer‑required testing
  • Manage ISIR requirements and submissions in accordance with company policy
  • Support customer certification and inspection activities, including documentation and release
  • Interface with customer representatives regarding quality requirements
  • Assist in training and certification of welders
  • Collaborate with supervisors, operations leadership, and cross‑functional teams on quality issues
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and additional quality‑related responsibilities
Qualifications
  • College degree or equivalent experience in manufacturing, preferably steel fabrication
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and manufacturing quality management systems required
  • Hands‑on experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of arc welding processes for carbon, stainless, and alloy materials
  • Familiarity with liquid and powder coating processes
  • Experience with inspection methods including dimensional checks and NDT preferred
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
