Produce Clerk

The Produce Clerk is a vital role responsible for maintaining the freshness, quality, and presentation of our produce department. This position requires a dedicated individual with a strong understanding of produce handling, merchandising, and customer service. The Produce Clerk is expected to create an inviting shopping experience while ensuring adherence to food safety standards and efficient operations. This role demands a positive attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Receive, inspect, and unload produce deliveries, ensuring quality and freshness.
• Stock and rotate produce, adhering to FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.
• Merchandise produce displays to maximize sales and visual appeal, utilizing selling techniques.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout the produce department, including proper food safety and sanitation practices.
• Assist customers with product selection, providing information and excellent customer service.
• Operate the cash register and handle cash transactions accurately, including cash handling and point of sale procedures.
• Bag merchandise carefully and efficiently.
• Monitor inventory levels and report any discrepancies or needs to the department manager.
• Perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing work surfaces.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude and contribute to a team-oriented environment.

• Working knowledge of basic arithmetic and general mathematics.
• General knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Effective communication skills in the English language.
• Experience in a customer service role.
• Familiarity with cash register operation and point of sale systems.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.
• Detail-oriented with a strong focus on cleanliness.

• Experience in a grocery store or restaurant operation environment.
• Prior experience with stocking merchandise and merchandising techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience with bagging merchandise.
