Contract-to-Hire Opportunity

The Assistant Geologist will support a variety of environmental and geologic projects for federal, state, local, and commercial clients. This role involves a balance of fieldwork, data analysis, and technical documentation, with opportunities to contribute to site investigations, remediation activities, and environmental reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career geologist seeking long-term growth within an environmental consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with environmental field activities including:
- Soil logging and classification
- Air monitoring during investigation and remediation activities
- Installation of groundwater monitoring wells
- Collection of soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analysis
- Collection of soil samples for physical testing
- Support the assessment and interpretation of soil, groundwater, and air data.
- Assist in developing soil and groundwater sampling plans.
- Compile and organize analytical data for soil, air, and groundwater results.
- Contribute to proposal preparation and technical report writing for environmental projects.
- Assist with coordinating and scheduling subcontractors for field investigations and remediation activities.
- Support site remediation planning and implementation efforts.
- Coordinate laboratory analyses to ensure proper identification and evaluation of samples.
- Perform on-site field monitoring to document compliance with federal, state, and local permit requirements during construction activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned while complying with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology or a related Environmental Science discipline.
- Related consulting experience preferred; prior hazardous site assessment experience (Phase I, Phase II, and remediation) strongly preferred.
- Basic knowledge of:
- Standard geological techniques, principles, and procedures
- Unified Soil Classification System (USCS)
- Glacial deposits, hydrogeology, and groundwater sampling
- OSHA, CERCLA, and remedial design concepts
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, quantitative problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking abilities.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and initiative.
- Involvement in campus organizations or community activities preferred.
- Basic working knowledge of ArcGIS, Rock Ware, and Adobe Illustrator.
- OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training preferred.
