The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a self‑motivated, versatile Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officer (FRLEO) to provide basic police duties, including maintaining a safe environment through continual assessment and mitigation of physical security risks. Previous law‑enforcement experience is not required. The anticipated start date is September 15th, 2026, with mandatory training from September 15th to October 9th at the Kansas City site and from October 12th to November 6th at another Federal Reserve Bank location requiring travel.

Activities
  • Protects and safeguards personnel, property, assets, and operations, remaining alert for potential security, property, or safety concerns and initiates the appropriate actions.
  • Responds to disturbances and unusual, emergency, or other rapidly evolving events/situations, including potentially life‑threatening situations. Uses the appropriate degree of physical force and/or weaponry as the situation dictates and makes critical decisions at the scene prior to the arrival of more senior officers. Prepares detailed incident reports.
  • Controls access to the Bank and high‑security areas, including inspecting individuals, their property, and/or vehicles.
  • Performs interior and exterior security patrols and checks.
  • Operates and monitors Bank Law Enforcement and life safety systems and equipment, including but not limited to the CCTV system, integrated access control and Law Enforcement alarm systems, x‑ray machine and metal detectors, biometric readers, radio system, fire system, public address system, and fire extinguishers.
  • May perform rotational roles such as Canine Handler, Instructor, Field Training Officer, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Previous law enforcement experience is not required.
  • High school education or GED.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to write clear, concise, and grammatically correct documents.
  • Working knowledge of PCs, email, and ability to learn other computer‑based/MS Office applications.

Work Shift
  • Requires availability to work 1st, 2nd & 3rd shifts.
  • Position subject to shift changes/rotations based on department needs.
  • Requires overtime, including unscheduled overtime due to staffing shortages or operational necessity.
  • Requires holidays and weekends.
Pay Range
  • Starting pay range $46,000–$70,000.
  • Final offers determined by qualifications, internal alignment, district assignment, and geographic location.
Screening Requirements
  • Position contingent upon successful completion of background investigation, psychological exam, agility, physical, drug screening, and lawful firearm carry. Screening initiated after offer acceptance and must be completed before start date.
  • Continued employment contingent upon ongoing training and supplemental screenings including BLEC, FTO, in‑service law enforcement training, weapons qualifications, annual drug screening, background reinvestigations, and maintaining certification.
  • Background investigations and drug testing required for all new hires, including FBI fingerprint and criminal background check, OFAC watch list, employment and education verification, NCIC check. Additional screenings may be required based on sensitive information.
