The Fiber Splicer Technician will play a critical role in building, maintaining, and troubleshooting aerial and underground fiber networks across Kansas City. This role is essential for ensuring high-quality splicing work, maintaining live network services, and supporting reliable connectivity for customers and enterprise clients—especially during night operations.

In this role, you will perform fiber splicing, testing, and troubleshooting for both aerial and underground fiber installations. You will support active network environments, ensuring accurate splicing, minimal downtime, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards. You will work independently or within a crew, perform critical nighttime maintenance tasks, and interact with clients or field supervisors as needed. This position requires strong hands-on skills, precision, and excellent professionalism in customer-facing scenarios.
Key Responsibilities- ✓ Perform fiber splicing on aerial and underground fiber optic cables.
- ✓ Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and service restoration on live networks.
- ✓ Read and interpret fiber network schematics, splice diagrams, and OTDR traces.
- ✓ Use tools such as OTDR, power meters, fusion splicers, and fiber scopes.
- ✓ Maintain high accuracy in splice documentation, labeling, and closure work.
- ✓ Support night-shift maintenance windows with timely and professional execution.
- ✓ Coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and customers as required.
- ✓ Follow safety protocols and industry best practices at all times.
- ✓ Strong background in aerial and underground fiber splicing.
- ✓ Hands‑on experience maintaining live fiber networks.
- ✓ Ability to operate splicing equipment and OTDR test gear.
- ✓ Familiarity with closures, patch panels, and distribution frames.
- ✓ Comfortable working during night shifts and in varied field conditions.
- ✓ Dependable, customer‑facing, and able to work both independently and with teams.
- ✓ Experience with emergency fiber restoration.
- ✓ Knowledge of ISP/OSP fiber construction standards.
- ✓ Certifications in fiber optics (FOA, CFOT, etc.).
- ✓ Experience in municipal or telecom utility environments.
