As part of our Accelerate Associate Software Engineer Program, you’ll join a cohort of peers in a dynamic, learning-driven environment designed to grow both your technical expertise and your professional confidence. We are currently seeking individuals for our Summer Cohort to start July 13th, 2026.

As a participant in the Accelerate Program, you’ll enjoy a hybrid work experience at our corporate headquarters in the vibrant Power & Light District of downtown Kansas City. From our front doors, you’re just steps, or a streetcar ride, away from incredible restaurants, entertainment, and all the energy of the city.

Day to day, you'll...
  • Under the guidance of a senior, lead or principal software engineer, design, develop and maintain software components and products that support H&R Block business applications
  • Use tools, languages, coding standards and best practices to develop new product features and maintain year-over-year product functionality and enhancements
  • Create and execute unit tests and address defects. Works closely with the QA, User Experience and other teams to ensure consistent understanding of requirements and approach
  • Design, develop and maintain software components
  • Create and maintain documentation of design approaches
  • Create and maintain documentation on internal architecture of the system under the guidance of senior or lead software engineer
  • Participate in technical design and code reviews for all new enhancements and maintenance work delivered
  • Under the guidance of the lead engineer or senior software engineer, understand business and functional requirements and produce technical specifications and product requirements
  • Create, maintain and execute unit test and alpha test plans
  • Maintain current knowledge on the latest technologies relevant to the role regarding algorithms, language, design methodology, third party development tools, application platforms, hardware compatibility and operating systems
What you'll bring to the team...
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related field, or the equivalent through a combination of education from a professional institution/bootcamp and related work experience
  • 0 years Minimum related work experience
  • Knowledge of software development concepts and practices
  • Knowledge of all phases of the software development life cycle
  • Oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated effective time management, organizational, prioritization, and planning skills
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to develop creative solutions in assigned projects
  • Ability to work in a team environment with limited supervision

Compensation is $70,000 annual
