Job Description

PURPOSE OF JOB: Provided leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation and improvement of specific sport coached.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as assistant coach for 5 high school swim teams.
  • Assist in implementing athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions;
  • Assume head coach duties if one or more head coaches are absent;
  • Assist with all swim meets hosted by KCPS;
  • Help provide information for transportation, facilities, officials and game management;
  • Help organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with the objective of developing the student‑athlete’s greatest potential;
  • Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of the best training and injury management procedures;
  • Conduct team and self in an ethical manner during practices and contests, always exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship;
  • Work with high school swimmers conditioning during off season. (Girls during boys season, and Boys during girls season);
  • Continue professional growth through clinics and professional publications;
  • Must successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses;
  • Serve as middle school swim instructor/coach;
  • Work with swim coordinator to actively recruit 7th and 8th grade students from feeder middle schools;
  • Teach/Coach middle school students 2 days a week during the Girls swim season;
  • Coach middle school students up to 2 months after the end of the Girls season (2 days a week);
  • Work with participating districts for potential swim get‑togethers and possibly host one;
  • Manage budget and ordering of all swim equipment, including suits.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Student‑athletes

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
  • Completion of 60 or more college credit hours prior to coaching.
  • Extensive knowledge in aquatics, stroke development, and water safety.
  • Possess a current CPR/First aid certification. (or obtain within 2 weeks of starting the position)
  • Lifeguard Certified
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Must have a Teachers Certificate or valid Substitute Certificate or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.
    • Be a full or part‑time employee in the District.
    • Employed in the school as a teacher or administrator in which the candidate applies for a position.
    • WSI Certified
