What You Will Do:Camp Counselors are responsible for leading daily activities and maintaining a safe, engaging, and inclusive camp environment. You will work closely with other counselors and camp leadership to support campers and help guide younger staff members.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading games, activities, and daily camp programming
- Actively supervising campers and ensuring safety at all times
- Implementing activity plans and daily schedules
- Supporting and guiding younger camp staff
- Maintaining required camper‑to‑counselor ratios
- Serving as a positive role model and team member
We offer summer camp programs at:
- Springfield Community Pool
- Summit YMCA
- Berkeley Heights YMCA
Camp Counselor positions are available at all locations.
Camp Season andSchedule:
Active Camp Season:
June 15, 2026 through August 28, 2026
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8‑hour shifts
Camp
Hours:
Pre‑Camp begins at 7:00am, Post‑Camp ends at 6:30pm
Required Pre Season Training:
New and returning camp employees attend several orientations and trainings prior to active camp season to familiarize themselves with the mission of the Y, learn to protect themself and others while at work, and on all areas of camp. Trainings occur on some weekday evenings and weekend days between May 19, 2026 - June 13, 2026.
This is a seasonal part time position with an opportunity to work up to 40 hours each week of the Camp season. The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.50/hour, but is based on experience.
Seasonal benefit includes a free individual YMCA membership while actively employed.

Requirements- Must be at least 18 years old
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience working with children or in a camp setting preferred
- Background in recreation, sports, or youth programs is a plus
- Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
- Able to stay active and engaged throughout the camp day
- CPR and First Aid certification required before camp begins
