Location: Buhler

Buhler High School is looking for a Percussion Specialist to assist the band program for the 26-27 school year. This is a seasonal, non‑benefit eligible, hourly position with a schedule that follows the band program calendar. Work periods include summer rehearsals, pre‑season preparation, marching season, and concert and jazz season. This is an hourly position not to exceed 400 hours within the year and not more than 40 hours per week.

Total hours will vary based on program needs.

JOB SUMMARY

The Percussion Specialist supports the high school band program by providing specialized instruction and leadership for percussion students in marching band, concert band, and jazz band. The position works in collaboration with the Director of Bands to strengthen student performance, musical growth, and overall ensemble success.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in percussion performance and instruction is required.
  • Experience with marching percussion is preferred.
  • Experience working with high school students is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills are expected.
  • Ability to work evenings, early mornings, and occasional weekends is required.
  • Maintain current TB testing as required by Health Department regulations.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provide instruction to percussion students in marching band, concert band, and jazz band settings.
  • Teach and reinforce percussion techniques, fundamentals, and performance skills.
  • Assist with sectionals, rehearsals, and full ensemble practices.
  • Support the development and implementation of marching percussion, including battery and front ensemble.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Bands on music selection, arrangements, and rehearsal planning.
  • Assist in preparation for performances, competitions, and festivals.
  • Provide feedback to support individual and group improvement.
  • Assist with percussion equipment setup, maintenance, inventory, and transportation as needed.
  • Model professionalism, positive relationships, and high expectations for students.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • HOURS and COMPENSATION

    This is an hourly position not to exceed 400 hours within the school year and not more than 40 hours per week. Total hours will vary based on program needs. Compensation will be determined according to district guidelines and experience.

    WORK SCHEDULE

    This is a seasonal, non‑benefit eligible, hourly position with a schedule that follows the band program calendar. Work periods include summer rehearsals, pre‑season preparation, marching season, and concert and jazz season. Summer band camp typically occurs over a two‑week period in July and includes daytime rehearsals and one extended evening rehearsal. Pre‑season rehearsals take place in early August during evening hours prior to the start of school.

    During marching season from August through October, rehearsals are held multiple days per week before school and may last approximately two to three hours per session. This season also includes several Saturday competitions or festivals. During the concert and jazz season beginning in November, rehearsals are held before school up to three times per week for approximately two hours per session.

    Additional time may be required for concerts, performances, and other scheduled band events. Specific dates and times are established annually through the band calendar.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS /ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during rehearsals.
  • Ability to lift and move percussion equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during marching season.
