SPECIAL EDUCATION RESOURCE TEACHER – WELLSVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT

Position Title:

Special Education Teacher

The East Central Cooperative has an opening at Wellsville Elementary for a resource special education teacher for the 2026‑27 school year.

Position Overview

Special education teachers assess students’ skills, develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and plan, organize, and assign activities that match each student’s abilities.

Qualifications

Education/

Experience:

Education Degree. Certificate/License:
Special Education Degree or Alternative Licensure welcomed.

Good communication skills, language skills, mathematical skills, reasoning ability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Communication skills – discuss student needs and performance with teachers, parents, and administrators; explain concepts in accessible terms.

Critical‑thinking skills – assess progress and adapt lessons.

Interpersonal skills – build positive working relationships with teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents.

Patience – work with students at varied pacing and modalities.

Resourcefulness – develop creative ways to present information and assist general‑education teachers with adaptations.

General Responsibilities

Teach students in small groups and one‑on‑one.

Implement IEPs, assess performance, and track progress.

Update IEPs throughout the year.

Discuss student progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators.

Supervise and mentor para‑professionals.

Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and after graduation.

Adapt general‑education lessons and teach subjects such as reading, writing, and math to students with mild or moderate disabilities.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
Ability to manually move, lift, pull, or push heavy objects.
Ability to stoop, bend, and reach.
Work in semi‑noisy, crowded environments.
Pay close attention to detail and coordinate activities simultaneously.
Regular attendance and/or physical presence at job.

Benefits

Board contributes $600 to single payer or higher policy monthly. Employer contributions to health and 403B, KPERS.

Salary

Competitive salary ranges from $45,100 to $79,400. Competitive salary found at Tuition reimbursement and alternative licensure welcomed.
