Baker University seeks a Director of Student Academic Success. This position provides strategic leadership for Baker University's academic support ecosystem, advancing student achievement, retention, and persistence across all student populations. Through oversight of the Center for Student Academic Success, the Director integrates advising, tutoring, academic coaching, and skill-building resources to remove barriers to learning and promote timely degree completion. Serving as a central liaison between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, the Director ensures academic support services are aligned with institutional priorities and responsive to the evolving needs of students across disciplines and schools.
Key Responsibilities:
* Academic Success Strategy and Programs Provide strategic leadership and oversight for academic coaching, peer tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, the Math Center, Speech Center, and the Writing Center. Guide the development, implementation, and assessment of academic success initiatives that improve student engagement, performance, and retention across disciplines and schools. Use data and student feedback to identify barriers to success and adapt services accordingly.
* Center for Student Academic Success Operations
Oversee all operations of the Center for Student Academic Success, ensuring cohesive delivery of academic support services. Supervise professional and administrative staff, including the Academic Success Coach/ADA Coordinator, Writing Center Coordinator, Speech Center, Math Center Coordinator, and Testing Center administrative associate. Develop additional avenues for peer-to-peer support through peer tutoring and peer academic coaching. Collect and analyze assessment data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
* Academic Advising Leadership and Coordination
Serve as a central point of coordination for academic advising support for students and faculty. Work closely with the Dean's Office and departmental chairs. Manage general advising inquiries, identify advising trends, and recommend improvements to advising processes and systems. Design and facilitate training and workshops for faculty and staff on advising practices and special topics;
Collaborate with Athletics to support student-athlete academic scheduling as well as others across campus to support other sub-populations of students with unique needs.
* Incoming Student Support and Placement
Within the Summer Orientation program, lead planning and execution of new student academic scheduling and placement processes. Assign academic advisors to incoming students, manage advisor changes, and oversee math and English placement processes. Serve as the primary contact for placement tools, faculty partners in Math and English, and communication with students regarding placement expectations.
* Cross-Campus Student Support and Intervention
Participate in the Baker Outreach Network, providing outreach, intervention, and care for students experiencing academic or personal challenges. Partner with academic departments and student affairs colleagues to ensure timely, holistic support for students in need.
Qualifications:
* Master's degree, 4+ years' experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Demonstrated commitment to student success, cross-campus collaboration, and data-informed decision-making
