Job DescriptionPurpose: Assist in supervising, caring, and instructing students with special needs in regular education classrooms, resource rooms, and other special‑needs settings under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher.
Responsibilities:
- Adapt and provide accommodations for classroom activities and materials to allow special education students to participate in general education and/or resource room activities.
- Aid students in and out of the classroom (e.g., packing backpacks, note‑taking, relationship building, field trips, social skills) to support their needs and social growth.
- Assist students requiring personal care (e.g., diaper changing, potty training, lavatory, hand washing, nutrition) due to medical conditions or physical limitations.
- Participate in trainings on education strategies and specific disability education to meet state requirements.
- Collaborate with staff to provide support and information related to students’ progress per the IEP.
- Create visual aids for students with visual impairments to improve learning.
- Implement educational and behavioral programming under supervision of certified staff to develop new skills.
- Assist students with challenging or aggressive behaviors in accordance with policies and IEP.
- Instruct students in individual and group settings in academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc. to meet IEP goals.
- Maintain instructional materials and data sheets to support student progress monitoring.
- Monitor students during assigned periods in various school and community environments to ensure safety.
- Create a positive learning environment and respond to students’ individual needs.
- Work cooperatively with other paras, professionals, and community agencies.
- Safeguard confidential information and observe confidentiality requirements.
- Use appropriate behavior‑management techniques to maintain a positive climate.
- Maintain reliable attendance and adhere to work schedules.
- Observe district and interlocal policies during activities.
- Restrict cell phone usage to break and lunch times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education/
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must complete 48 college hours or achieve a qualifying score on the Master Teacher Online Exam within the first 90 days. 20 hours of annual in‑service training required. All positions are non‑exempt, at‑will.
Experience: Job‑related experience is desired.
Clearances:
- Criminal background check.
- Health and inoculation certificate on file.
Salary: $13.50 to $13.90 per hour, based on hours worked and required training completion.
Position Type: Full‑time.
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt.
