POSITION TITLE: Paraprofessional, 10-month

FLSA: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month employment with benefits as specified in the Classified Agreement.

Bilingual preferred, not required

Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities.

• Education/Certification:
  
  High school diploma or equivalent.
• Enrolled in an educator preparation program (preferred).
• Associate degree in Education (preferred).
• Pursuing a career in Education (preferred).
• Special Knowledge/
  
  Skills:
  
  Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; ability to work well with children; ability to communicate effectively.
• Experience:
  
  Some experience working with children.

• Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom (lunchroom, bus, playground duty).
• Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
• Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
• Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Comply with all district policies, rules, and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to maintain emotional control while under stress and in stressful situations.
• Ability to frequently sit and stand for prolonged periods.
• Ability to walk frequently.
• Ability to use standard office equipment including computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment for prolonged periods.
• Ability to occasionally bend/stoop, push/pull, twist, or reach.
• Ability to regularly lift and carry items 30 lbs. or less.
• Ability to work and concentrate in noisy and crowded environments.
• Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
• Ability to occasionally work outside with exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
