Foreign Language Teacher
The purpose of the Foreign Language Teacher is to teach the students in such a way that they will be able to speak, understand, write and read the language being learned, and to attempt to instill in the students an appreciation for the culture and people behind that language. Also, to serve as a role model for students.
Qualifications:
- Kansas State Teaching Certificate/Licenses in assigned area(s) of instruction.
- Highly qualified as defined in the No Child Left Behind Legislation.
- Ability to convey information to students in a variety of methods to induce learning.
- Ability to use technology as an instructional tool.
- Ability to use appropriate classroom management skills that insure a positive learning environment.
- Keep active in understanding the current trends in the discipline.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and the community.
- Ability to effectively manage the classroom.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks.
- Ability to establish goals and objectives.
- Ability to design effective strategies to achieve goals.
- Ability to make the subject matter relevant to the students.
- Ability to supervise students in non-classroom settings.
- Ability to promote education throughout the community.
- Ability to insure classroom activities conform to District policies, rules, and regulations.
Physical Requirements /
Environmental Conditions:
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
- Requires stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, and reaching.
- Ability to move equipment within the building as required.
- Requires prolonged sitting and standing; and use of equipment causing eye fatigue.
- May require physical exertion ranging from limited to extreme.
General responsibilities:
- To accomplish an aural comprehension ability, the teacher needs to use the language wherever possible.
- To accomplish an oral ability, the students are to be required and encouraged to use the language themselves as much as possible.
- To develop a writing ability. The students are to be required to do various written assignments.
- To develop a reading comprehension ability. Various materials should be read and discussed and, when appropriate, be tested from.
- To develop an appreciation for the culture and people. Films, slides, displays, posters, guest speakers, songs, dances, games and trips should be incorporated into the program.
- To clearly present to the students the importance of developing a second language ability.
- Keep an accurate record of grades and attendance.
- Sponsor a foreign language club or groups of students on trips visiting a foreign country.
- Follow the guidelines set forth by the faculty handbook.
- Communicate with and follow directions of principal.
- Present recommendations of ways to enhance the program.
- Stimulate students in classroom to apply themselves to learn the second language. Identify student's needs and respond to them.
- Communicate with other faculty and attempt to integrate and/or reinforce their subject areas. Demonstrate a feeling of cooperation and mutual respect.
- Relate class activities to the public and parents.
- Willingness and flexibility to adopt new teaching strategies into their classroom.
- Prepare students for local, state, and national summative assessments.

As per negotiated teacher agreement

According to Certified Salary Schedule
Evaluation:
Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education Policy of Certified Personnel.
