Position: Inclusion/Resource Special Education Teacher (USD 249).
Purpose: The Special Education Teacher is an instructor of students with special needs, responsible for collaboratively developing individualized education plans and providing services in the assigned buildings. The teacher must work closely with students, parents, general and special education staff, and administrative staff.
Responsible ToDirector, Assistant Directors, Special Education Coordinators, and building Principal.

- Appropriate current state licensure or ability to obtain a waiver.
- Support an optimal learning environment in all educational settings.
- Demonstrate professionalism and good time-management.
- Experience or understanding of the essential functions of a special education teacher, including best practice in teaching, IEP writing, and procedural due process.
- Knowledge of building-level special education programs and activities conforming to federal, state, and interlocal guidelines.
- Excellent communication with students, parents, para educators, service providers, and staff.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with public, private agencies, community organizations, and education providers.
- Support the mission and goals of SEK Interlocal #637.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasional physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Some travel required, as needed.
- Work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Observe, record, and report student behavior.
- Assist students with remedial work.
- Monitor student progress.
- Use appropriate behavior management techniques to maintain a positive learning climate.
- Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
- Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
- Escort/transport students to and from various school facilities and areas.
- Provide daily feeding, mealtime supervision, toileting, and hygiene care as needed.
- Grade papers and maintain records.
- Take attendance and record absences.
- Prepare instructional materials and supplies.
- Attend staffing and general staff meetings as requested.
- Assist in maintenance and inventory of materials.
- Work effectively with students, teachers, parents, community agencies, and other groups.
- Safeguard confidential information and observe confidentiality requirements.
- Immediately report accidents, assaults, destruction of property, and abusive behavior to appropriate staff/administration.
- Adhere to required program and district/interlocal policies.
- Stay current with new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.
- Follow all district and interlocal health and safety policies, including Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan precautions.
- Respond positively to changes in assigned duties.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
