SLP Related Service Provider Job Description

Speech language pathologists will assess students' skills to determine their needs relative to their specific discipline and develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student. They plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student's abilities and provide therapies related to the areas of need determined by the IEP.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Communication skills. The providers discuss student's needs and performances with general education teachers, parents, and administrators. They also explain difficult concepts in terms that students with learning disabilities can understand.

  • Critical‑thinking skills. The providers assess students' progress and use the information to adapt lessons to help them learn.

  • Interpersonal skills. The providers regularly work with general education teachers, school counselors, administrators, and parents to develop Individualized Education Programs. They need to build positive working relationships.

  • Patience. Working with students with special needs and different abilities can be difficult. They should be patient, and some may need instruction given aloud, at a slower pace, or in writing.

  • Resourcefulness. They must develop different ways to present information to meet students' needs and help general education teachers adapt lessons.

  • General Responsibilities
  • Providing direct therapy to students according to students IEP.
  • Conducting assessment, analyzing results, and writing reports to determine strengths and concerns.
  • Consulting with teaching teams to develop and implement curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies.
  • Documenting all work with students for Medicaid logs.
  • Completing treatment notes and progress reports.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Requires the ability to manually move, lift, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Requires the ability to stoop, bend and reach.
  • Must work in semi‑noisy and crowded environments.
  • Attention to detail and ability to coordinate various activities simultaneously.
  • Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
  • Benefits Information

    BOE contributes $480 per month toward single payer policy--other options available.

    Competitive Salary based upon Education and Experience --see salary schedule at

    Additional Stipend will be additional to the salary schedule placement.
