SPED Teacher – Gifted Education – Girard, KS Job Summary
The primary role of the Gifted Education Teacher is to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages gifted learners to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Qualifications- A valid driver’s license is required for employment. REAL required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
- Valid Kansas teaching licensure with applicable endorsement or eligible for waiver/provisional.
- Relevant teaching experience.
- Must have proficient technology skills commonly found in classroom environments.
- Ability to travel between sites on a daily basis.
- Must be able to change schedule and daily routines on short notice.
- Effectively communicate solutions to complex problems.
- Must be in good standing with partnering district(s) where program is located.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.
- Kansas Gifted teaching endorsement.
- Proficient in Science, Technology, English and Mathematics.
- Knowledge of technology and video conferencing.
- Receive referrals from participating area special education agencies and complete follow-up promptly.
- Participation in the development of the students’ Individual Education Plan.
- Develop positive working relationships with administrators and teachers.
- Knowledgeable about current and evidence-based practices, teaching resources and methods.
- Schedule time efficiently for assessment, instruction, planning, preparation of materials, travel and conference with relevant school and other key individuals.
- Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences and project-based learning. Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
- Observe, evaluate and maintain accurate and complete records of students’ performance and development.
- Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations.
- Establish positive student behaviors through the use of instructional and social‑emotional protocols.
- Perform student support, counsel students with academic problems and provide student encouragement.
- Maintain timely documentation.
- Support the mission, goals, and objectives of the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center (SEKESC).
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
- Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined by FERPA and HIPAA.
- Ability to work alone and in groups to provide services.
- Maintain professional relationships with families.
- Assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to effectively and regularly communicate with other employees of the SEKESC and constituents.
- Complete all assignments in a timely manner including communication with other staff and families.
- Follow all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC.
- Regular and predictive attendance in the designated work location as determined by the Executive Director or designee.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.
- Lifting to 40 pounds.
- Manage all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
- Sit/stand for long periods.
- Work in loud/stressful environments.
- Ability to drive in varying weather and geographical conditions.
- Being exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.
- Being exposed to hazardous materials.
- Being exposed to work settings that offer a risk to personal security and that are not ADA‑compliant.
Salary, work schedule, and vacation to be established by the SEKESC Board of Directors and Executive Director.
Assignment & EvaluationResponsible to:
Director of Special Education or designee.
Supervises:
Paraprofessional, if applicable.
Evaluation:
As determined by the Executive Director or designee following state guidelines.
