Job Summary:

The power plant technician will serve as Lead Tech, Plant Tech, I/C Tech, I/E Tech, or Mechanical Maintenance Tech, operating, maintaining, and repairing stationary combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generators, generators, and associated equipment such as PLCs, diesel engines, air compressors, motors, and pumps to ensure safe, reliable power. The position offers pay ranging from $40 to $60 per hour, with bonus, profit sharing, and benefits for the employee and eligible dependents.

Job Functions
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, install, and calibrate protective relays, PLCs, transformers, motor control centers and instrumentation.
  • Read meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.
  • Record data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, temperature or pressure, and fluid levels.
  • Calibrate instrumentation to ensure accurate data transfer.
  • Adjust controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges.
  • Switch to backup equipment or systems, or shut down equipment.
  • Visually inspect and listen to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
  • Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, gauges, and cleaning or replacing other component parts, as required.
  • Oil and lubricate equipment.
  • Record maintenance actions taken on work order forms.
  • Open and close valves, circuit breakers, and locking devices as required for proper system operation and isolation.
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to, and remove defective parts.
  • Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Identify and repair or replace defective parts.
  • Start devices and systems to test their performance.
  • Diagnose causes of electrical and mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment.
  • Review data trends, sequence of events for operational discrepancies and root cause analysis.
  • Initiate purchase orders for parts.
  • Read and understand technical manuals, electrical schematics, logic diagrams, one line diagrams and system piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance in accordance with technical manual procedures.
  • Prepare legible and understandable work orders for required preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Read, understand, and comply with all plant, safety, and regulatory procedures.
  • All applicants must be a successful candidate on the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS / MASS) program to be considered for this position.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical prints and processes.
  • Technical competency including understanding of software, hardware, and networks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree from junior college or technical school.
