About The Role
National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
In April 2025 the National Energy System Operator (NESO) has taken on the exciting new role of being the Regional Energy Strategic Planner. We will be responsible for developing 11 Regional Energy Strategic Plans (RESPs) across Great Britain.
Our South West based team will work with other NESO teams and organisations at a local level, including local government and gas and electricity networks, in developing the RESP. Understanding and lived experience of the South West will be key, as will complementary energy expertise and experience to reflect the region’s diverse society, environment and energy planning needs.
The purpose of this job is to ensure engagement with local actors and other NESO teams is coordinated. You will engage strategically with stakeholders across Gloucestershire, the West of England and Somerset, and will bring complimentary expertise and ideally experience in this area. This is the first time we have a regional presence; alongside your regional manager and team, you will be among the first to establish and coordinate energy planning work within your region.
Our focus in the immediate term is to build trust with our stakeholders, establish our South West RESP Governance, progress towards implementing RESP and grow our capability in whole energy systems to best support local actors and industry stakeholders in developing credible energy plans.
This role will be home‑based with occasional use of our trial Bristol office and will require some travel within the region and occasional travel within Great Britain to collaborate with others.
