Charles River Laboratories is seeking a Clinical Pathology Technician for our Kansas site. This new facility bridges the Discovery and Safety Assessment business units, providing automation to standard lead‑optimization toxicology study models and delivering rapid study results to our clients. Job DescriptionThe Clinical Pathology Technician will acquire on‑boarding skills, procedures, and teamwork proficiency while learning the basic skills required to conduct a study. Daily responsibilities include:
- Sample labeling, delivery, aliquoting, processing, and verification
- Cleaning of lab and equipment
- Preparation, staining, consolidation of slides, and review of study‑ordered parameters
- Computer input of raw data
- Shipping and receiving activities as needed
- Assist with technical/study‑related duties under guidance
- Generate, update, and maintain data for department activities
- Maintain record keeping and assist with training of less experienced staff
- Complete all new hire training requirements while gaining proficiency in CP Tech II core skills and values
- Operate general laboratory equipment (centrifuge, pipettes, water baths)
- Perform biological sample management duties including labeling, delivery, aliquoting, processing, and verification
- Monitor and perform tasks related to individual study assignments
- Receive, process, track, and store all samples in the laboratory; manage sample pick‑up and delivery from/to the vivarium and supporting labs
- Ship samples to external sites/locations and receive samples into the site as needed – tracking shipping information
- Ali quoting with disposable and mechanical pipette
- Sample storage (cooler) preparation and delivery
- Cleaning – Centrifuges, counters, laboratory equipment, etc.
- Labeling of standard NUNCs and blood tubes
- Generate and maintain data for department activities
- Assist with training for less experienced staff
- Perform all other related duties as assigned
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred
- Experience in a laboratory setting preferred
- No specific certification/licensure required unless mandated by local government
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and validated systems
- Strict adherence to safety procedures and protective equipment use
- Ensure integrity of studies per Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), SOP, BOP, and IACUC rules
- Availability to work extended hours beyond a normal schedule (evenings, weekends, short notices)
- Ability to work under specific time constraints
Thursday – Sunday or Saturday – Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. (four days per week)
Physical Demands- Lifting, moving, manipulating, or holding heavy objects up to 50 pounds
- Performing laboratory procedures that require speaking, hearing, standing/sitting for long periods, using instruments, reaching, working in narrow spaces, wearing PPE per OSHA regulations
- Frequent manipulation of work materials with fine motor skills
- Requires close, color, and depth vision; ability to adjust focus
- Research laboratory environment involving sharp objects, mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and biological hazards
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and variable noise levels
