Location: Council Grove

Accepting applications for a Medical Assistant to work in our MCH Clinic in Council Grove, Kansas This full time benefits eligible position would work 4.5 days a week (Monday through Friday) providing assistance to our patients within the scope of their practice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Welcomes patients to the clinic with a positive attitude.

Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment to promote patient health

Obtain medical histories, check vital signs, and assess patient needs to prioritize care, both in-person and via telephone.

Review with patient current medications, allergies, past medical history, and social history; updating information in the patient medical record, accordingly.

Coordinate communication and plan of care between patient, ancillary services, outside specialists, and primary care providers.

Document clinic information, including patient phone calls accurately and completely within the specific time.

Under the direction of the primary care provider, ensure that patients receive results of laboratory and diagnostics test, special test instructions, and other information in a timely manner.

Explain treatment procedures, medication instructions, and preventive care tactics to patients.

Assist physicians and advance practice providers with sterile and non-sterile procedure setups, patient procedures and examinations.

Assist with direct patient care/rooming of patients - collect patient’s vitals - checking and recording blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pulse, temperature, height, and weight.

Review and process electronic, fax, or phone medical refill requests, checking for accuracy and compliance with established protocols.

Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records in the EMR, including recording lab results and documenting telephone triage.

Administer medications, vaccinations, and injections following approved procedures as directed by provider.

Perform waived Point of Care testing, phlebotomy, and other basic lab tests.

Perform EKG, wound care and other technical tasks.

Assist with direct patient care procedures and related tasks

Performs other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the provider.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports directly to Clinic Manager. Assist and work in conjunction with medical office staff to facilitate smooth office operations.

QUALIFICATION SA high school diploma or GED, plus minimum of one year of post-secondary education with coursework in medical assistant, nursing, or related program, OR 5 or more years of experience working in primary care or clinic office setting with completion of at least 9 hours of relevant post-secondary course work (e.g. medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, basic pharmacology)
Certification as Certified Medication Aide, or completion of other similar healthcare relevant training preferred.

COMPETENCIES/SKILLS Strong attention to detail

Strong communication and active listening skills.

Ability to work well with team members

Proficiency with computers and capacity to learn relevant EHR system.

Able to perform a variety of duties in a short period of time.

Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and infection control procedures.

Maintain required CPR/Basic Life certification PHYSICAL DEMANDSAbility to communicate orally with patients, doctors, nurses, and others is crucial. Regular use of the telephone is important. Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is helpful for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.

Heavy lifting is not expected. Exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally may be required to assist patients with movement. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office and medical equipment such as computer terminals.

Good reasoning ability is required to solve a wide range of medical and emergency problems. Able to apply math skills and other analytics as required. Able to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses. Able to understand and utilize management reports, medical charts and other documents to conduct business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT The job is performed indoors in a traditional medical office or hospital setting. Exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions, as well as loud noises, unpleasant odors, and liquids may occur. Protective (safety) equipment, including appropriate clothing, shoes, gloves, goggles, and face mask, is required ivities include extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting and extensive work with measuring devices and medical machinery.
