Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) – Hospital-Based Inpatient/Outpatient

Position Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Physical Therapist Assistant works under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to help patients restore function, improve mobility, reduce pain, and achieve their rehabilitation goals. The PTA provides direct patient care across inpatient and outpatient settings and plays a vital role in supporting patients recovering from injuries, surgeries, illnesses, and chronic conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct physical therapy treatment interventions as outlined in the patient's plan of care established by the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, gait training, balance activities, transfer training, and functional mobility tasks.
  • Implement evidence-based treatment techniques and therapeutic modalities to support patient recovery.
  • Monitor patient response to treatment and communicate progress, concerns, or changes in condition to the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on prescribed home exercise programs, safety strategies, and functional mobility techniques.
  • Accurately document treatment sessions, patient progress, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to support coordinated patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and professional standards of practice.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and effective treatment environment.
Qualifications

Required

  • Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • Current and active state Physical Therapist Assistant license or eligibility for licensure.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Preferred

  • Experience in a hospital, acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, or outpatient setting.
  • Familiarity with EMR documentation systems.
