General Purpose

The

• Education:
  
  High School diploma or GED.
• Licensing:
  Active license to practice in the state of Maryland.
• Training and experience:
  At least one year of current experience.
• Maintenance of current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Health Care Workers or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification for Health Care workers.
• Educated (Agency will train) on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.

Reports to:

Nurse/RN Supervisor

The Certified Medication Technician administers prescribed medication to patients and provide support to Nurses. They work under the supervision of a nurse and ultimately, the RN supervisor.

• Maintenance of current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Health Care Workers or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification for Health Care workers.
• Educated (Agency will train) on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.

• Administers prescribed medications to patients and maintains related medical records under supervision of the nurse.
• Presents medication to patient and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures.
• Takes vital signs or observes patient to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies Nurse of unexpected reactions.
• Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
• Gives direct patient care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding patients, and assisting in examinations and treatments as necessary.
• May receive supply of ordered medications and apportion, mix, or assemble drugs for administration to patient.
• May record and restock medication inventories.

The CMT will receive or have access to information about patient/client medical records (“Patient Information”), all of which is confidential property. The Health Care Professional agrees to keep all Patient Information in strictest confidence at all times. At no time during or after work status will the Health Care Professional use or disclose to any person any Patient Information made available to them in the course of their work status.

Immediately upon the termination of work status, or upon request by the agency, the RN will return all Patient Information and other materials or property in their possession, including all copies thereof, in whatever form they exist. Violation of confidentiality is cause for disciplinary action, including immediate termination.
