MCH Clinic is seeking a PRN Clinic Coder to help with the coding overflow of its four clinics. This PRN position would work a hybrid schedule (remote and on-site) that is determined by the needs of the Clinic.

Qualifications ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Account for coding and abstracting of patient encounters, assigning codes to diagnoses and procedures, using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes
  • Make sure that codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per government and insurance regulations
  • Ensure all medical records are filed and processed correctly
  • Comply with medical coding guidelines and policies
  • Review and verify patient chart and documentation for diagnoses, procedures, and treatment results
  • Follow up with the provider on any documentation that is insufficient or unclear
  • Correctly resolve work items in designated EMR revenue cycle task queues.
  • Maintain working knowledge of changes in medical insurance plans as it pertains to claim billing
  • Telecommute position with possibility of up to 4 days onsite attendance required per quarter.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma is required;
    Associate degree or 2 years of advanced education preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of medical coding experience, with a focus on primary care, rural health, or professional fee coding.
CompETENCIES/SKILLS
  • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding systems
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and problem-solve capabilities.
  • Strong communication and ability to work as a team.
  • Proficiency with computers and capacity to learn relevant EHR system.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports administratively to the Clinic Manager, with direct supervision by Lead Professional Coder.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The person in this position frequently communicates with patients and staff regarding medical treatments or therapies. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Activities require the ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, occasionally move about inside the office to access files or office equipment, and operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, handheld devices, copy machine, and computer printer.

Heavy lifting is not expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office and medical equipment such as computer terminals. Good reasoning ability is required to solve a wide range of medical and emergency problems. Able to apply algebra and other analytics as required. Able to understand and utilize management reports, medical charts and other documents to conduct business.
