As a Patient Safety Attendant, you will provide continuous observation and monitoring for high-risk behavioral health patients in a supportive and secure environment. Your role is vital in ensuring patient safety through vigilant observation and timely intervention.
Essential Responsibilities- Maintain constant visual observation of assigned patients, monitoring behaviors, mood changes, and interactions with staff, family, and others.
- Document observations accurately and promptly according to organizational policies.
- Recognize signs of agitation, aggression, or distress and apply appropriate de-escalation techniques.
- Intervene in safety incidents as necessary and assist with safety protocol implementation.
- Participate in training related to trauma, mental health first aid, and emergency preparedness.
- Adhere to privacy and security regulations concerning Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Foster effective communication and professional relationships with patients, team members, and external agencies.
No formal education or prior experience is required; however, previous experience in law enforcement, behavioral health, or psychiatric settings is preferred.
Licenses and CertificationsMust obtain a current BLS/CPR certification from an approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation. Certification as a CNA, EMT, or HHA is preferred.
Skills and Abilities- Basic computer proficiency.
- Effective communication skills.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, mental health disorders, and safety protocols.
- Ability to remain calm under stress and demonstrate compassion and empathy in patient care.
This role involves occasional heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs) and frequent standing or walking (51-75% of the day). Accommodations may be provided as needed.
