Attendant - Patient Safety Behavioral Health

Job Type: Full Time

As a Patient Safety Attendant, you will provide continuous observation and monitoring for high-risk behavioral health patients in a supportive and secure environment. Your role is vital in ensuring patient safety through vigilant observation and timely intervention.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Maintain constant visual observation of assigned patients, monitoring behaviors, mood changes, and interactions with staff, family, and others.
  • Document observations accurately and promptly according to organizational policies.
  • Recognize signs of agitation, aggression, or distress and apply appropriate de-escalation techniques.
  • Intervene in safety incidents as necessary and assist with safety protocol implementation.
  • Participate in training related to trauma, mental health first aid, and emergency preparedness.
  • Adhere to privacy and security regulations concerning Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Foster effective communication and professional relationships with patients, team members, and external agencies.
Education and Experience

No formal education or prior experience is required; however, previous experience in law enforcement, behavioral health, or psychiatric settings is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

Must obtain a current BLS/CPR certification from an approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation. Certification as a CNA, EMT, or HHA is preferred.

Skills and Abilities
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, mental health disorders, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to remain calm under stress and demonstrate compassion and empathy in patient care.
Physical Requirements

This role involves occasional heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs) and frequent standing or walking (51-75% of the day). Accommodations may be provided as needed.
