POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the County Sanitarian, the Seasonal Laborer is a nonexempt position under FLSA. This position is responsible for assisting the Transfer Station Landfill staff in the implementation of minor construction projects, debris sorting, and the operation and maintenance of building and grounds systems at the Landfill. Work involves the moving or lifting of heavy furniture and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (required)
  • Safely sort construction debris.
  • Clears buildings and grounds as needed.
  • Maintains a safe environment.
  • Performs a wide variety of general and semiskilled maintenance activities (e.g. carpentry, painting, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects within established time frames.
  • Operates and maintains equipment.
  • Performs grounds keeping duties such as mowing.
  • Able to follow policies and procedures involving safety hazards, handling of materials and cleaning chemicals, and reporting of deficiencies.
  • Ability to wear special clothing and protective safety gear as needed.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with coworkers and project a positive image of the County to the public.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

    MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs cleaning tasks which include sweeping, collecting and removing trash.
  • Assists other Landfill employees as needed.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    Knowledge of general cleaning and grounds methods and ability to follow oral and written instructions. Employee shall possess a working knowledge of building construction, including framing, finish carpentry, minor plumbing, minor electrical work, painting and staining. Employee shall possess the mechanical ability to operate and maintain hand and power tools.

    Problem Solving

    The employee is assigned tasks that require knowledge regarding proper building construction and maintenance techniques. The employee uses initiative in carrying out assignments and routine tasks, but refers deviations to the County Sanitarian.

    Decision Making

    This person must possess the ability to identify problems and implement the appropriate acceptable course of action. Daily decisions pertaining to safe practices and operations shall be maintained.

    This position works with occasional supervision from the Transfer Station Landfill Supervisor.

    EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma, GED, or the equivalent, preferred. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
