Summary / Objective
Under supervision, the Paint Booth Operator will be responsible for painting products in a timely manner so that orders can meet ship dates. The Blast Operator will manage the blast booth to maintain throughput, inspecting and preparing fabricated components before painting.
Essential Functions- Performs all tasks safely and responsibly, complying with company policies.
- Determines uses of personal protective equipment (PPE) and identifies safety equipment and procedures related to safe work practices and surrounding environment.
- Runs and completes parts using the MRP Network, using the MRP system to clock in and out of jobs upon set‑up and completion.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Maintains and fills out quality sheets to verify part tolerances.
- Knowledge of basic blast/paint shop vocabulary.
- Operates equipment to verify operational efficiency and maintain allowed time standards.
- Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose malfunctions and determine necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Wears all PPE equipment during working hours, including a breathable air hood, protective outer garments, gloves, safety shoes, ear protection, and goggles.
- Selects appropriate coatings, paints, or sprays, and prepares them by mixing substances according to formulas with paint mixing equipment.
- Places items or products on racks, spindles, or reel stands to coat, paint, or spray them, using hands, overhead hoist, or forklift.
- Determines paint flow, viscosity, and coating quality by performing visual inspections or using viscometers.
- Cleans parts, primes and paints parts as noted on prints.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Passes a respiratory physical for forced‑air and/or half‑face respiratory equipment.
- Cleans machine, equipment, and work area using water, solvents and other cleaning aids.
- Operates equipment to clean dirt, scale, and core materials from steel parts with a continuous blast of steel shot.
- Secures and hangs fabricated components to allow efficient blasting and access to all areas of the workpiece.
- Wears protective breathing apparel, protective mask, and headgear; operates a blasting gun dispersing pressures up to 100 ft./lbs.
- Inspects and prepares fabricated components prior to painting.
- Pours or shovels abrasive material into the feed hopper to replenish supply.
- Transfers materials, supplies, and products between blast and paint areas using overhead hoist or forklift.
- Observes equipment operation to ensure continuity of flow, safety, and efficient operation, and to detect malfunctions.
- May perform other duties as assigned by management.
