Under the direction of the SCL Communications Director, the Communications Specialist supports the Communications Office through content creation, writing, graphic design, website and social media management, photography, videography, and administrative support. This position assists in producing print and digital communications that support the mission and strategic communication goals of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth.
The Communications Specialist manages multiple projects and deadlines while helping maintain consistent, mission-centered communication across platforms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Write, design, and edit content for newsletters, social media, emails, website updates, publications, and other communications materials.
- Assist with maintaining and updating the SCL website and social media platforms.
- Assist with graphic design projects for print and digital use, including flyers, presentations, advertisements, and publications.
- Capture and edit photography and video content for events, social media, and storytelling purposes.
- Attend events and provide communications support as needed.
- Support email communications and digital outreach efforts.
- Proofread and edit communications materials for clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Assist in the maintenance of confidential records, databases, directories, and communications files.
- Assist with obituary communications, memorial materials, Jubilee preparations, and other Community initiatives.
- Assist with the daily operations of the Communications Office.
- Perform other related duties in support of the Communications Office.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate degree or higher in communications, graphic design, marketing, multimedia, or a related field preferred.
- Three to five years of experience in communications, graphic design, social media, or related work preferred.
- Experience with nonprofit, faith-based, or mission-driven organizations preferred.
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and organizational skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro.
- Experience with Canva, Word Press, and website content management systems.
- Strong graphic design skills with an eye for layout, branding, typography, and visual storytelling.
- Familiarity with photography, videography, and basic broadcasting or streaming software.
- Demonstrated proficiency in a Windows environment, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Commitment to and ability to reflect the SCL philosophy of care, compassion, and concern in all work.
- Ability to perform primarily sedentary work, including sitting and typing for extended periods of time.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while covering events, including photography and videography.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach when accessing files or equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry light equipment (e.g., camera gear, boxes of materials), typically up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to move between buildings and event locations across campus as needed.
- The position may require occasional travel, which may involve sitting for extended periods of time in various modes of transportation.
- Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated, and ventilated office.
