Wound Care Nurse Practitioner Role and Responsibilities- Provide wound care services for long-term care patients residing in skilled nursing facilities.
- Prescribe appropriate medications, including controlled substances in accordance with Kansas law.
- Order, review, and/or follow up on treatments and diagnostic testing.
- Communicate with nursing home staff regularly to discuss changes in condition and updates to the care plan.
- Collaborate with the primary care physician.
- Current, unrestricted NP license in the state of Kansas.
- Board certification.
- DEA licensure (optional).
- Clinical background in adult, family, or geriatric specialties.
- Clinical background in wound care, including chronic, debilitating, stalled, or infected wounds.
- Comfortable diagnosing and treating diabetic, arterial, venous, and mixed etiology wounds, including Kennedy ulcers.
- Comfortable staging pressure injuries according to NPIAP guidelines.
- Familiar with wound care best practices and advanced wound care products—collagens, alginates, foams, silvers, etc.
- Experience with wound vacs and other DME such as pressure-relieving/reducing devices.
- Strong preference for wound certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Experience working in a long‑term care setting.
- Ability to work with an EMR.
- Ability to work within an interdisciplinary care team to coordinate patient care.
