JOB SUMMARY This is a brief synopsis of overall job duties.

Responsible for the administration of all medications and treatments to provide the highest possible quality of nursing care for each residents, adhering to established standards and recommendations for the long term care of the geriatric residents.

Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing and Administrator Supervises:
Nurse aides and Certified Medication Aides on the same shift

Qualifications:

Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing and meet all applicable federal and state licensure requirements.

Must be able to supervise and instruct others.

Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English effectively.

Must be knowledgeable of general, rehabilitative and restorative nursing and medical practices and procedures and laws, regulations and guidelines governing long-term care.

Background clearance mandatory (TB, Drug Screening, Physical…)Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

Must be positive team player and maintain a positive attitude.

Positive attitude toward the elderlyEducation
- Certificates, Licenses or Registrations:

Must have a current Kansas licensures for practical nurse required.

Experience:

Current Kansas licensures for practical nurse

Must be knowledgeable of general nursing theory and practice

Thorough knowledge of isolation procedures and prevention of spread of disease

Personal Skills and Traits Desired:

Good verbal and written communications skills.

Evidence of effective problem resolution skills.

Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.

Ability to make decisions and accept responsibility for the consequences.

Ability to be organized and efficient.

Ability to meet residents physical, mental and psychosocial needs.

Ability to be responsible for direct supervision of nursing activities of assigned unit on assigned shift

Ability to work performance to determine conformance to recognized medical and nursing standards

Ability to maintain quality resident care, including compliance with physician’s orders and facility policies.

Licensed Practical Nurse

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)Essential Job Function Duties:

Direct the day-today functions of nursing assistants

Complete and maintain medical forms, reports, and charts.

Periodically meet with assigned nursing staff in planning shifts, services, programs and activities

Admit, transfer and discharge residents as required

Ensure that all nursing personnel are performing their respective duties in accordance with written policies, procedures and manuals

Participate in surveys and inspections by government agencies

Interpret the department’s policies and procedures to personnel, residents, families, visitors and government agencies as necessary

Make reports to the Director of Nursing for any violations of Abuse, Neglect or Exploitation.

Nursing Care Function Duties:

Participate in the orientation of new residents and family members

Inform personnel of new admissions, ensure that rooms are ready, greet new admissions and escort to rooms

Maintain established nursing objectives and standards

Monitor residents’ treatment and medications and make independent decisions regarding nursing care to ensure residents are receiving proper care Ensure cleanliness and safety of all nursing treatment areas

Make rounds with physicians as necessary and ensure proper recordkeeping

Consult with physicians in providing care, treatment, diagnostic and therapeutic services, and notify physicians of resident accidents, incidents and changes in condition

Coordinate social and activity programs with nursing schedules

Meet with residents and families and report problem areas

Assist in arranging transportation for residents when needed.

Call family and physicians on any new changes with residents

Personnel Functions Duties:

Supervise and instruct nursing personnel, develop work assignments

Make daily rounds and ensure that all nursing personnel are performing duties in accordance with acceptable nursing standards
