Position: Advanced Practice Provider - Cardiology - FT - Inpatient
Location: Mulvane

Job Overview

Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Cardiology – First Shift (Days). Full‑time, 40 hours per week. The APP manages and documents the patient’s medical plan of care in collaboration with the supervising physician or medical director, including billing and quality management activities. The position delivers professional nursing care guided by the organization’s caring theory and shared governance.

Education & Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited PA or APRN program.
  • Experience with cardiovascular patient care.
  • Required proficiency in nursing competencies as designated by federal and state organizations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions; interpret instructions and respond to inquiries.
  • Knowledge of billing and reimbursement issues related to patient management.

  • Educational preparation delivered within specified time frames as outlined by department policy.
  • Supportive behaviors for age‑specific care; maintain positive working relationships with customers and staff.
  • Accept feedback constructively and apply to improvement.

Licenses & Certifications
  • Physician Assistant (PA) – Kansas Board of Healing Arts or Nurse Practitioner – Kansas Board of Nursing.
  • RN license with advanced practice certification (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support – ACLS required within 4 months of hire). DEA registration number is required.
  • Additional certifications may be required for certain patient‑care settings.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure care delivered follows the organization’s mission, strategic plans, and all internal and external regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Practice within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and Kansas Board of Healing Arts guidelines.
  • Provide prescriptive authority per state law and organizational protocols.
  • Understand cardiovascular disease pathophysiology and apply it to patient assessment and treatment.
  • Adjust patient’s plan of care (testing, medications, diet, activity) under the direction of the supervising physician/medical director or approved protocols.
  • Perform pre‑operative evaluations; assess patients and order appropriate tests and medications.
  • Collaborate with primary care physicians to communicate patient plans and outcomes.
  • Educate patients and document cardiovascular risk‑modification teaching.
  • Identify learning needs and implement measures to meet them.
  • Participate in community education/outreach activities.
  • Complete hospital rounding and documentation accurately, including history, physical exams, and progress notes per Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
  • Interpret findings from history, physical exam, lab reports, and other diagnostic tests.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate care for cardiac inpatients.
  • Generate daily charges consistent with documentation when appropriate.
  • Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols.
  • Complete discharge summaries timely per Medical Staff Policy.
  • Provide routine hospital coverage on weekends as scheduled.
  • Order laboratory and diagnostic studies per protocols; consult interdisciplinary team for ongoing care or referrals.
  • May provide outreach clinic cardiac care as needed.
  • Comply with all policies, standards, mandatory training, and requirements of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
