Registered Nurse (RN) - OB GYN

The OB GYN RN supports obstetric and gynecologic patients across inpatient and outpatient settings. The role includes monitoring maternal and fetal status, assisting with procedures, and providing education on pregnancy, birth, and gynecologic health.

The nurse collaborates with providers, midwives, and ancillary teams to ensure safe care journeys and informed decision-making for patients.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor fetal well-being and maternal vitals; assist during labor and delivery when applicable.
  • Administer medications and provide perioperative or peri-delivery nursing care.
  • Assist with outpatient preconception, prenatal, and postnatal education and counseling.
  • Support gynecologic procedures and perioperative care as part of the care team.
  • Coordinate with obstetricians, midwives, and pediatric teams to facilitate smooth transitions of care.
  • Document care, procedures, and patient education in the electronic health record.
Qualifications

Education:

Associate degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program.

Licensure:
Current and valid RN license in the state of practice.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS). OB related certifications such as fetal monitoring or lactation support preferred.

Experience or

Skills:

Experience in obstetric or gynecologic settings; strong maternal and neonatal collaboration skills; ability to document and communicate care plans clearly.

Experience
  • OB/GYN nursing in hospital or clinic settings
  • Experience with fetal monitoring and postpartum education
Preferred
  • BSN preferred
  • Certification in fetal monitoring or lactation support
Work Environment

Clinical settings may include labor and delivery, antepartum, and outpatient clinics; schedules vary with patient volume and procedures.

Documentation is performed in the electronic health record; collaboration with obstetricians, midwives, and pediatric teams is routine.
