This is a brief synopsis of overall job duties.

To provide direct nursing care to the residents and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by Licensed Practical Nurses and nursing assistants in accordance with current federal, state and local standards governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Director of Nursing Services, Assistant Director of Nursing Services and Administrator, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing

Supervises: LPN’s, Certified Medication Aides and Certified Nurse Aides

Qualifications
  • Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing and meet all applicable federal and state licensure requirements.
  • Must be able to supervise and instruct others.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English effectively.
  • Must be knowledgeable of general, rehabilitative and restorative nursing and medical practices and procedures and laws, regulations and guidelines governing long-term care.
  • Background clearance mandatory (TB, Drug Screening, Physical…)
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Must be positive team player and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Positive attitude toward the elderly
Education
- Certificates, Licenses or Registrations
  • Must currently be licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Kansas and have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or an Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
Experience
  • Must be considered capable of performing duties.
  • Orientation to facility’s policies and procedures.
  • Reviews Nursing Care Plans of residents.
  • Supervisory experience needed
  • Ability to work with others
  • Ability to assure resident care is being completed properly
Personal Skills and Traits Desired
  • Good verbal and written communications skills. Interpersonal communication is a must (for example, individuals from diverse backgrounds, cognitively impaired residents.)
  • Evidence of effective problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Ability to make decisions and accept responsibility for the consequences.
  • Ability to be organized and efficient.
  • Ability to meet residents physical, mental and psychosocial needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians
  • Must be able to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and general public.
  • Ability to supervise staff effectively
Registered Nurses

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)Administrative Functions Duties
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants
  • Periodically review and make recommendations for revisions of written nursing policies, procedures, manuals, objectives and philosophies.
  • Complete and maintain medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charts and submit to appropriate offices or department for processing.
  • Periodically meet with assigned nursing staff in planning shifts, services, programs and activities.
  • Admit, transfer and discharge residents as required.
  • Ensure that all nursing services personnel are performing their respective duties in accordance with written policies, procedures and manuals.
  • Participate in surveys and inspections by government agencies.
  • Interpret a department’s policies and procedures to personnel, residents, families, visitors and government agencies as necessary.
  • Make reports and recommendations to the Director of Nursing and Administrator concerning operations of the department.
