Job Overview
Charles River Laboratories (CRL) is seeking an Animal Technician to join the Integrated Toxicology (ITox) team at the Kansas City (CR-KAN) Site. This site is the first of its kind, bridging CRL’s Discovery and Safety Assessment business units and bringing automation to standard lead optimization toxicology study models to deliver rapid results to our clients.

The pay range for this position is $20/hour.
Job DescriptionA Technician learns the basic skills required to conduct a study, including animal husbandry, animal handling/restraint, housing maintenance, feeding procedures, data collection, monitoring health status and body weight, dose administration by various methods, euthanasia, and biological specimen collection for analysis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Ensure good welfare and humane care for all animals, using gentle and positive human‑animal interactions.
- Perform basic skills of the department such as animal handling/restraint, housing maintenance, feeding procedures, data collection, health monitoring, and body weight measurements; administer doses, conduct euthanasia, and collect biological specimens as required. Specific skills will be based on each area’s training plan and business needs.
- Collect, document, review, and verify data on forms or in electronic data capture systems.
- Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality control requirements.
- Use and maintain instrumentation and equipment.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Education:
High school diploma, General Education Degree (GED), preferred. - Experience:
No previous experience required. Experience working with/around animals is preferred. Physical labor experience is a plus. - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Certification/Licensure:
None, unless required by local government. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals.
- Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite), commensurate with essential functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.
- Ability to ensure a safe working environment by observing all safety procedures and using proper protective clothing and equipment, and by reading, understanding, and following all safety documents issued.
- Ability to ensure the integrity of studies and fulfill regulatory agencies’ requirements by performing activities according to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Business Operating Procedures (BOP), and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) rules.
- Ability to work extended hours beyond the normal work schedule, including evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts on short notice.
- Ability to work under specific time constraints.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without a sponsor visa, now or in the future.
