JOB DESCRIPTION

Store Managers are responsible for all aspects of their stores’ performance, including sales, profits, losses, personnel, organization, appearance, public relations, and security.

STORE MANAGER JOB DUTIES PERSONNEL
  • A. Recruits, interviews, screens, and hires, or recommends hiring of subordinate store employees.
  • B. Conducts initial training, continuous retraining, or training in new skills, policies, or procedures as appropriate; determines when new employees should be considered fully trained; trains employees for advancement.
  • C. Evaluates employee performance, both formally and informally, as to good and poor performance and in what areas and in what respects improvements are needed, and discusses this with the employee.
  • D. Issues oral or written reprimands or warnings to employees as to company policy as appropriate.
  • E. Disciplines employees in other respects as appropriate, including suspension, demotion, termination.
  • F. Recommends raises for employees.
  • G. Recommends promotions for employees.
  • H. Enforces all personnel policies and operational policies and procedures as set forth by Management.
  • I. Answers employee’s questions as to policies, procedures, benefits, etc.
  • J. Investigates and resolves employee complaints, grievances, or conflicts.
  • K. Monitors employee turnover and develops ways of reducing turnover and maintaining a stable store workforce.
  • L. Explains, implements and interprets new instructions, policies and/or procedures from Management.
  • M. Schedules and conducts periodic store employee meetings to discuss new matters or particular problems, to motivate employees, etc.
  • N. Ensures that employees accurately and properly record all hours worked.
  • O. Ensures compliance with all state and federal personnel-related laws, such as anti-discrimination statutes, wage and hour provisions, employee health and safety laws, etc.
  • P. Spot checks employee performance at times when Manager is not scheduled to work, including conducting periodic shift performance reviews and cash audits.
  • Q. Terminates or recommends termination of store employees.
  • R. Prepares a store employee to function as Manager in absence of Manager.
  • S. Provides and explains all required pre-employment paperwork to applicants or new employees, and reviews completed documents.
  • T. Insures that store employees understand and carry out their responsibility for contributing to effective operation of the store, and accomplishment of company’s goals.
  • U. Provides weekly updates to Management on all the duties performed and recommends any changes to store operations.
  • V. Reports the hours worked and tasks performed hourly/daily.
INVENTORY AND MERCHANDISING
  • A. Ensures that the store is adequately but not excessively stocked with merchandise at all times.
  • B. Evaluates all factors affecting inventory needs, including local preferences; neighborhood characteristics such as residential or industrial nature, seasonal needs, holidays, special events, supplier promotions, high or low volume items in the particular store; upcoming sales; customer requests; and determines the need to rotate merchandise; etc.
  • C. Compiles orders with due regard for competing or differing needs, adjusting orders as to kinds and amounts of items based upon an evaluation of the relevant factors.
  • D. Effectively and creatively displays merchandise to maximize sales.
  • E. Ensures that prices and codes on all merchandise are correct and up-to-date.
  • F. Determines when to mark down or write off damaged, old or unsaleable merchandise.
  • G. Determines whether duplicate items should be maintained, whether items should be dropped or maintained at minimum levels, and takes or recommends action as appropriate.
  • H. May be asked to monitor competitor’s activities as to pricing, merchandising, advertising, etc. and takes or recommends responsive action as appropriate.
  • I. Reviews and monitors competitor gasoline prices on a daily basis.
  • J. Ensures that shelves are clean and fronted at all times.
  • K. Ensures that displays and signs are consistent with merchandising goals and programs.
  • L. Ensures that products such as drinks and coffee are fresh and ready to serve.
