* Charles River Laboratories (CRL) is seeking a technical trainer to join our integrated toxicology (ITox) team at the Kansas City site. This site is the first of its kind, bridging CRL's Discovery and Safety Assessment business units, while bringing automation to standard lead optimization toxicology study models to deliver rapid study results to our clients. A Technical Trainer I is responsible for providing technical skills instruction for staff including skills within in-vivo operations, basic clinical pathology sample processing, and animal euthanasia. This includes providing and/or coordinating technical training, conducting skill proficiency assessments, maintaining training documentation, and providing feedback to training program governance representative(s) and managers of the trainees.

The pay range for this position is $25-$27/hour. Please note that hourly rates vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Coordinate staff technical training based on needs identified through collaboration with functional line management; conduct training, including cross-training, where applicable; assess trainee knowledge/skills acquisition and evaluate trainee competence to perform required tasks.

+ Document training progress and completion; coordinates and monitors training conducted by other subject-matter experts.

+ Review work performed by trainees (including data collected as part of the job) and address minor deficiencies and escalate more notable deficiencies to department management.

+ Provide feedback about trainee progress to trainee and department management.

+ Review, update, and /or create training materials; obtain input for content and appropriate instructional design from other subject-matter experts, as applicable.

+ Perform assessments of staff technical skills to verify that correct and consistent practices are used; identify skill gaps and provide or coordinate refresher training, as needed.

+ Assist learning professionals with design and implementation of training programs and knowledge/skills assessments.

+ Other duties as assigned.

** Job Qualificiations*

Education and Experience:

HS/GED/Bachelor's degree with 1-4 years of relevant experience.

+ Certification/Licensure: ALAT certification preferred.

+

Demonstrated proficiency in required departmental technical skills; previous training experience preferred.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of department processes and procedures.

+ Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization.

+ Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

+ Computer skills, commensurate with

Essential Duties and Responsibilities , including the ability to learn a validated system.

+ Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice.

+ Ability to work under specific time constraints.

+ Must be authorized to work in the United States without a sponsor visa, now or in the future.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

+ Must be able to lift, move, manipulate, and/or hold heavy objects up to and including 50 pounds; this includes work materials, equipment, and/or animals.

+ Must be able to perform laboratory procedures, which require talking, hearing, standing, or sitting for long periods of time, entering data into a computer, using appropriate instruments, reaching with hands and arms, working in narrow spaces, and wearing safety equipment (PPE) according to OSHA regulations and company standards.

+ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

+ Work in a research environment, which requires use of sharp objects, working around mechanical parts, working with or near known or unknown toxic or caustic chemicals and/or biological hazards, exposure to fumes and airborne particles, working at noise levels ranging from moderate to loud.

+ Regularly works with live animals with risk of exposure to allergens, zoonotic disease, and biohazards.

+ Noise level in the work environment ranges from low to high depending upon the species housed.
