About the Position
Classified, Full‑Time, Regular. 3‑shift schedule: 06:30‑14:30, 14:30‑22:30, 22:30‑06:30. Veterans’ Preference Available. Position housed in the security division of Larned State Hospital (LSH).
Position SummaryThe Campus Security Officer provides a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Duties include roving patrols, control‑center monitoring, secure‑door checks, emergency response, contraband enforcement, and investigation support. The role rotates between rover, control‑center operator, and secure‑door officer as assigned.
Key Responsibilities- Patrol campus buildings and patient‑occupied units and respond to safety/security incidents.
- Operate control‑center consoles, monitor alarms, and coordinate emergency actions.
- Check visitors and employees at secure doors using X‑ray, metal detectors, or other equipment.
- Search premises for contraband and conduct unit searches.
- Respond immediately to medical emergencies and provide first‑response medical equipment.
- Document incidents, collect statements, take photographs, and submit reports to the Special Investigator.
- Enforce state statutes, local laws, and hospital regulations related to parking, traffic, and access control.
- Assist with fire safety training, inspections, and evacuation drills.
- Maintain communication with shift leaders and supervisors; attend security in‑service sessions.
- Provide switchboard duties during off‑hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Valid driver’s license at hire and maintained throughout employment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Complete Department of Corrections or KDADS training within 6 months.
- Pass KBI background check and pre‑employment drug test.
- Handle With Care Certification within 2 weeks of hire, maintained continuously.
- First Aid/CPR/AEC Certification within 60 days of hire, maintained continuously.
- One year or more of experience in corrections, security, or law enforcement.
