Road Crew Member

The Road Crew Member is responsible for performing tasks involving physical, semi‑skilled equipment operation s position may perform general road repair duties related to construction or repair, as well as duties related to asphalt work and preparation. The role involves operating hand and power tools, as well as light equipment, and may assist other workers while maintaining safety of the site for all workers and the public.

The position will interact with customers to provide information in response to inquiries about services and to handle and resolve any issues while delivering the highest level of customer service to Ottawa County.

• Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to light equipment vehicles, mowers, pickup trucks, single axle dump trucks, and small front‑end loaders, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
• Operates power tools such as chainsaws and weed eaters.
• Operates equipment and performs assigned work observing safety rules and common‑sense practices.
• Completes clean‑up of the yard and/or shop buildings, and general utility work.
• Performs general maintenance duties related to road work such as flagging traffic, trimming trees, cutting brush, grass, and weeds, and replacing traffic‑control signs.
• Cleans up roadside debris.
• Assists with snow and ice removal.
• Performs duties related to bridge construction or repair such as patching bridge surfaces, replacing bridge planks, and setting forms for concrete.
• Performs duties related to asphalt work and preparation for asphalt work, and general clean‑up after.
• Works with other departments to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
