Position: POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC with Security Clearance
Location: McConnell AFB

Duties The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) journeyman mechanic that troubleshoots, tests, repairs, modifies, overhauls, services, and dispatches powered ground support equipment and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein.
* Performs preventive maintenance on ground power support systems. Checks equipment for fuel, lubricants, coolant, and battery water levels.
* Performs major maintenance on ground support equipment such as power sources, major components, support components, and associated components. Dispatches support equipment.
* Performs periodic routine and special inspections of all scheduled equipment.
* Maintains records and documents actions. Maintains and controls tools. Cleans work area and equipment.
* Utilizes safety practices and procedures and complies with following established security and safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program. Requirements Conditions of employment

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC with little or no supervision. JOB ELEMENTS:
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of principles of electricity (AC/DC), solid state circuitry, and safety rules and regulations pertaining to powered support systems. Knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel and gasoline engines. Knowledge of the operation of emergency generator power systems. Knowledge of regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
2. Skill in reading, interpreting, and using wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, technical publications, and similar guides. Skill in troubleshooting complex situations related to electrical power generators.
3. Skill in using hand and power tools, instruments, test equipment, and electrical meters to include special tools such as hydraulic knock-out tools, hammers, drills, valve spring compressors, and micrometers. Skill in installing, operating, inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and modifying generators, automatic transfer switches, and uninterruptible power systems; and in maintaining, overhauling, repairing, and reconditioning internal combustion engines, both diesel and gasoline.
