Accountability

The Journeyman Lineman provides manpower, knowledge and workmanship which are necessary to perform job duties for the proper construction, maintenance, and operation of the electric system. This position makes correct application and use of all materials and equipment furnished in order to provide efficient, reliable service to the member in the operation and maintenance of the electric system.

Essential Duties
  • Performs all required construction, maintenance, and operations on energized and non-energized portions of the system without any supervision.
  • Assumes the responsibility of the Area Person, as directed, which includes, but is not limited to, line inspections, meter exchanges and readings, re-sagging conductors, replacing anchors by hand, pulling slack guys, right-of-way maintenance, secondary change outs, consumer inquiries and connections, responding to outages and power quality issues, daily ticket assignments, preparing staking sheets for work orders, and billing collections.
  • Assists in training and supervision of all Apprentice Linemen and Serviceman.
  • Ensures switching operations for maintenance and/or emergencies.
  • Operates and applies all circuit and sectionalizing devices and electrical devices used on the system in a proper and safe manner.
  • Troubleshoots line deficiencies. Takes corrective measures within the limitations set forth in this job description.
  • Performs required work on energized underground transformers and enclosures.
  • Placement of poles in and around energized lines.
  • Operates and works from the bucket truck on and around energized lines.
  • Performs after-hour duty assignments and participates in the Cooperative's "on-call" rotation as directed.
Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Degree in electrical power and distribution or equivalent is preferred.
  • Completion of the Merchants Training Program or an approved apprenticeship program is required.
  • Have and maintain a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License without an L, Z, or E restriction is required.
  • Effective working knowledge of the construction and maintenance of the electric distribution system, including the installation of meters, transformers, voltage regulators, capacitors, sectionalizers, and reclosers is required.
  • Extensive understanding of construction specifications and is thoroughly familiar with most phases of distribution line construction, equipment applications, tool application and equipment operations.
  • Upon hire, obtainment of Fort Leavenworth access pass is required.
Physical Demands
  • Frequently requires talking, hearing, standing, walking, pulling/pushing, reaching, crawling, squatting, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and good hand/finger dexterity.
  • Frequently lifts and/or moves up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to one hundred (100) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Limited exposure to chemicals, oil, gasoline and dirt as long as proper Personal Protective Equipment is used, and Safety Rules are followed.
