JOURNEYMAN MECHANIC

The Journeyman Mechanic is an INPO-accredited Mechanic at Wolf Creek or another U.S. Nuclear Plant. The employee will provide leadership, experience, knowledge, and skill to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, surveillance, calibrations, repairs, rework, removal/installation, and preventative maintenance throughout the plant. The Journeyman Mechanic will use various test equipment to perform maintenance, provide feedback on procedure corrections, work instruction, walkdowns, and job preparation and execution.

• Perform maintenance activities including troubleshooting, surveillance, calibration, repairs, rework, removal/installation, and preventative maintenance throughout the plant.
• Assist in "moderately complete" maintenance tasks as assigned during the training program, applying knowledge and skills.
• Ensure components and equipment within the system are maintained and operated efficiently and safely in accordance with plant procedures.
• Perform all aspects of assigned work including development, preparation, department interface, performance, and documentation.
• Understand and complete pre-task paperwork including parts requisition, tool acquisition, and various permits to ensure quality maintenance.
• Lay out work in planned sequence using drawings, sketches, and technical diagrams.
• Brief, lead, and coordinate work crews to complete work safely and efficiently.
• Train and develop personnel in technical knowledge and skills in accordance with station policies and procedures.
• Assist in performing administrative duties such as MTE evaluations, budget input, self-assessments, PIR dispositions, procedure development, correction, and validation.
• Plan, organize, and control assigned programs to ensure they meet intended function.
• Perform related activities such as E-plan, fire watch, confined space, and rigging, as qualified.
• Perform corrective action and maintenance walkdowns, peer evaluations, and job critiques.
• Provide verbal and written turnover reports to ensure job continuity and progress status. Perform duties and responsibilities of an Apprentice Mechanic III.
• Maintain cleanliness of shop, office, and work areas daily.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision/management.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent and five years relevant experience; or an associate’s degree in a relevant technical field and three years relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field and two years relevant experience; or completion of an accredited electrical apprenticeship program; or completion of the 6‑year Navy Nuclear EM program.
• Relevant experience in industrial settings, maintaining components such as pumps, valves, heat exchangers, diesel engines, etc.; may include performing alignments, using cranes/hoists, and rigging.
• To reach full qualification status, complete the WCNOC Training Program. Three years directly related experience and equivalent training, and pass the required performance test may substitute for training.
• Pass the MASS test; maintain respirator fit and qualification when necessary.
