At Prairie Land Electric Cooperative, we’re on the lookout for an enthusiastic and dedicated Journeyman Lineman who is eager to learn and contribute to our dynamic team. This position is a key role in supporting the PLE mission and obtaining the cooperative’s operational and strategic goals.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Prepares appropriate documentation related to service, operations, safety, and personnel.
  • Regular and predictable attendance during business hours.
  • Be available for trouble calls after normal working hours, Sundays, and holidays.
  • Be available to contribute to the on‑call rotation.
  • Directs the work activities and documentation for apprentice line workers as assigned. Assists in on‑the‑job training of apprentice line workers to ensure safe working practices, knowledge and skill gains, and evaluation of abilities as they relate to assuming Journeyman duties during apprenticeship and after program is complete.
  • Contributes to the efficient and economical operation of the department.
  • Attends, participates, and contributes to Job Safety and Training Programs.
  • Able to work with energized lines in a safe manner and with appropriate safety equipment.
  • Performs line work from both the bucket truck and from the pole.
  • Works efficiently and safely at heights.
  • Works in all types of weather, extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, wind, mud, day or night, outside environments.
  • Works safely in all terrain including hills, uneven ground, wooded areas, high weeds and grasses as well as waterways, in cities and alleyways, various types of farm ground and highway right of way.
  • Can work for prolonged periods of time at the job.
  • Requires frequent physical activity including walking, stooping, bending, lifting 50 lbs. unassisted, climbing, kneeling, reaching, stooping, crawling, pushing, and working in awkward positions.
  • Requires use of heavy equipment and machines, hand tools, power tools and specialty equipment.
  • Must possess valid Kansas Driver’s license and be able to obtain Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Must submit to drug and alcohol testing as mandated by law and policy.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned, to meet the goals of the cooperative.

Working Conditions Environment

Working in outside environments including extreme temperatures (-20 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit) work can include ice, snow, sun, high and low humidity, dust, dirt, etc.

Physical Demands

The position of Journeyman lineman will require some talking, listening, standing, walking, (including over uneven terrain safely) crossing ditches, reaching, pushing, pulling, driving, and traveling, lifting 50lbs. unassisted, bending stooping, squatting, lifting, twisting, balancing, and kneeling.

Summary

The Prairie Land Journeyman will provide for the construction, operation, maintenance and servicing of all electric transmission and distribution facilities. They will maintain safe and good working conditions in accordance with established industry practices, following policies and procedures of the Cooperative as an effective guide to operation. This position will require positive working relationships, personal integrity, and dedication to the cooperative principles.

Minimum Requirements

Journeyman must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have successfully completed an approved 4‑year line technician apprenticeship program.
