Job Duties

The work involves communication and interaction with adult offenders under the court’s jurisdiction and with other concerned parties in the investigation and preparation of reports for the court; assisting offenders in understanding and meeting requirements that have been placed upon them; and assisting them in identifying needs and appropriate resources. A Court Services Officer (CSO) prepares reports related to the transfer of supervision, case reports, violation reports, risk assessments (LSIR, LSCMI, WRNA, SASSI), and works closely with resource agencies in the community.

Work is performed independently or in teams under the general direction of a senior Court Services Officer and is reviewed through staffing, reports, and caseload audits.

Required

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a social services field (such as psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, corrections) from an accredited university is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • All applicants must pass a named-based criminal history check.
  • If employed by Court Services, the new employee will need to pass a fingerprint-based criminal history check within the first thirty days of employment.
Knowledge, Abilities,

Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills are required with the ability to interact respectfully with both clients and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge best practices in probation/ pretrial supervision is preferred.
  • A familiarity working with justice-involved clients experiencing trauma, mental health, and/or substance use is preferred.
Preferred qualifications:

A minimum of one year experience in one or more of the following within the past five years:

  • Conducting interviews
  • Writing formal reports
  • Working with justice-involved individuals
  • Working with clients with substance abuse and/or mental health issues
