Job DescriptionTitle: Bus Aide
Reports to: Director of Support Services / Assistant Transportation Director / Fleet Manager
Purpose and Objectives of the Position: The Bus Aide assists in providing safe transportation to help students enjoy the complete educational program of the school district. To accomplish these tasks, the Bus Aide works closely with the staff and administration of the district.
Essential Job Functions- Assist in providing safe transportation to help students enjoy the complete educational program of the school district.
- Ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.
- Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
- React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Safely operate all equipment and machinery related to specific job duties.
- Implement the vision and mission of the school district.
- Requires prolonged sitting.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
- Requires stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, reaching, climbing and balancing.
- Extensive travel required.
- Must work indoors and outdoors during the school year.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
- Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
- Assist bus drivers in supervising students.
- Maintain effective student discipline.
- Ensure students board and depart the bus orderly.
- Assist young or disabled students in boarding and departing the bus.
- Care for the needs of disabled students.
- Assist bus drivers in resolving problems with students.
- Observe and follow all district policies during all activities.
- Keep current on new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
- Respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous and timely manner.
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Support Services / Assistant Transportation Director / Fleet Manager.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with staff members of the school district and community.
- Observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Verify good health by passing a physical examination, which includes TB and drug test as required.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
- Keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
Terms of Employment: At Will. (See annual appendix). Salary to be established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the USD 450 Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and this job description.
