Director Of Transportation / Fleet Manager & Mechanic

Leading our fleet. Driving our students. Supporting our schools. We are seeking a dynamic leader and experienced mechanic to oversee our transportation department. This dual-role position ensures safe, efficient, and reliable transportation for our students and staff while maintaining a top-performing fleet. This is a full-year, full-time position. This position combines administrative leadership with hands-on mechanical oversight to ensure safe, efficient, reliable transportation for students and staff. The Director of Transportation / Fleet Manager & Mechanic is responsible for transportation planning, driver recruitment and training, routing, scheduling, compliance, budgeting, fleet maintenance, vehicle repair, preventative maintenance, and emergency response. Most have strong communication skills and a willingness to communicate with parents and administration on a frequent basis.

This position works under limited supervision and is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing transportation and fleet maintenance activities. The position operates within an established budget and has significant responsibility for the safety, reliability, efficiency, and effectiveness of the District's transportation services and vehicle fleet.

Qualifications
- Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or higher in transportation management, business, automotive technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in school transportation, fleet management, heavy-duty vehicle maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Experience working with school buses, commercial vehicles, trucks, vans, or heavy equipment preferred.
  • ASE certification and/or applicable heavy-duty vehicle certifications preferred.
  • Valid CDL with appropriate School Bus and Air Brake endorsements, or ability to obtain required endorsements.
