Accountant, Financial Reporting, Financial Analyst

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

• Responsible for preparation of recurring, reclassification, standard and adjusting journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
• Reconciles general ledger account balances to supporting schedules and sub-ledger detail monthly.
• Involved in month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and adjustments.
• Maintains and updates financial records in compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Support the preparation of internal and external financial reports.
• Prepares bank reconciliations monthly.
• Prepares general excise tax returns on both cash and accrual method.
• Sets up and maintains fixed assets schedules to include additions, retirements, depreciation (Internal book and various tax books).
• Monitor and analyze accounting data to identify trends, variances or areas for improvement.
• Assist with audits by providing documentation and responding to inquiries.
• Assists with special projects as requested.

Skills/Knowledge:

• Math – Excellent math skills to review and analyze financial data and perform calculations related to daily tasks.
• Reading – Able to read and understand financial forms and technical documents.
• Other – Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Email. Aptitude to learn in-house systems; keyboarding skills sufficient to complete daily tasks in a timely manner. Knowledge of accounting or ERP systems required. Knowledge of Vista or Sage 100 systems a plus.

Strong organizational and detail-oriented capabilities desired.

Excellent interpersonal skills for internal and external communications.

Education:

College degree in Business Administration. Degree in Accounting Preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Experience:

5+ years relevant experience in accounting, or closely related field. Previous experience in the construction or asphalt business is preferred.
