Part‑Time Middle & High School Hula TeacherSalary Range: $53,680 - $112,672 Annually based on degree and student contact hours
JOB SUMMARYMid-Pacific is seeking a passionate and dedicated Hula Teacher to join our School of the Arts faculty. This role will support both middle and high school students (grades 6–12), helping them explore, understand, and embody the cultural, historical, and artistic depth of Hula. The ideal candidate is an experienced and accredited Kumu Hula who brings a student‑centered approach to teaching, a strong commitment to cultural preservation, and the ability to inspire students through both traditional and contemporary practices of Hula.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEssential duties and responsibilities include the following. In addition, other duties may be assigned.
- Plan and deliver culturally grounded and age‑appropriate Hula instruction for middle and high school students (grades 6–12), emphasizing both technique and cultural understanding.
- Integrate elements of ?
Olelo Hawai?i, Hawaiian history, mo?olelo, and cultural protocol into the learning experience to provide students with a deeper connection to the art form. - Choreograph and rehearse student work for the Fall and Spring Hula performances, ensuring cultural integrity, artistic expression, and appropriate challenge for each age group.
- Prepare students to participate in school events such as May Day, assemblies, cultural celebrations, and community showcases as appropriate.
- Provide a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that reflects Mid‑Pacific’s values of compassion, character, and belonging.
- Collaborate with other faculty and staff to support interdisciplinary projects, school‑wide performances, and co‑curricular events.
- Support student growth through timely feedback, assessment, and encouragement, fostering confidence and purpose‑driven passion in each learner.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom activities.
- Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and school‑wide initiatives that education, cultural learning and continuous improvement.
- Maintain rehearsal schedules, costume, and logistical needs for performances, in coordination with Mid‑Pacific School of the Arts administrative staff.
