Position: LIBRARIAN III - CORRECTIONS - MAUI

Maui Community Correctional Center

Salary: $5,354 to $6,331 per month (SR-20, Step D to I). Salary includes Shortage Category Differential.

Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Job Summary:

As a professional librarian in a correctional facility, you will perform the full range of professional services within a service area, including cataloging, classification, reference and readers’ advisory services, and other related duties.

Qualifications
  • Legal Authorization to Work:
    The State of Hawai‘i requires all applicants to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States.
  • Education:

    A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four‑year college or university.
  • Professional Librarian

    Experience:

    1½ years of progressively responsible professional experience in major functional areas of librarianship such as selection, acquisition, cataloging and classification, collection development and maintenance, reference and readers’ advisory services, or development and promotion of library services.
  • Master’s Degree in Library Science: A master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university will be deemed to have met all the education and experience requirements for Librarian III.
  • Last‑semester students who will graduate and meet the minimum qualification requirements will be accepted for examination. Applicants must submit a transcript of coursework completed and a letter from the department head or registrar verifying enrollment, expected graduation date and major.
Other Requirements
  • Conditional offers are subject to drug screening and an intensive background check.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)
  • Has engaged in sexual abuse in a correctional facility.
  • Has been convicted of or attempted sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, threats of force, or coercion.
  • Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2.
  • Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or has resigned during a pending investigation of alleged abuse or harassment.
