General funds, tenure-track, full-time, 9-months, to begin Spring 2027, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. May be for Leeward CC day, evening, or weekend offerings; on- and off-campus such as Leeward CC - Waianae Moku and local area high schools (pending background clearance) or other satellite campuses.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Under general supervision, develop curriculum for and teach a wide range of World History including sophomore level Asian, Hawaiian and Oceanic History courses in face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and online learning environments and perform other related work as assigned.
  • Related work activities include, but are not limited to, advising and counseling students; responding to student inquiries in a timely manner; assisting in program, division, and campus-related student activities;
  • Actively participate in faculty and administrative committees;
  • Actively participate in program, division, college, and community/public service;
  • Develop and maintain professional self-improvement plans;
  • Collect data and prepare reports;
  • Prepare, create, and revise Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and adjust pedagogy and curricula as appropriate to meet CLOs;
  • Conduct course assessment and other evaluations of instruction based on CLOs, Course Evaluation Surveys, and Peer Evaluations, and adjust pedagogy and curricula as appropriate to improve outcomes;
  • Independently plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Master’s Degree in History.

    Note:

    Minimum qualifications (degrees and credits) must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary colleges and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and met by the effective date of appointment.

    Desirable

    Qualifications:
  • Specialty in the history of Oceania and Hawaii and/or Asia.
  • Experience teaching history at the community college level; ability to see, interpret, and present historical events in a complex, inclusive and multicultural way.
  • Knowledge of and ability to integrate instructional technology in the classroom and to use such technology to offer curriculum and student learning through diverse delivery modes (for example, async, sync, hybrid, face-to-face delivery).
  • Familiarity with goals and objectives of the community college philosophy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Understanding of and experience working with a diverse student population, including students with disabilities and students from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Experience in course and curriculum development.
  • Ability to employ writing assignments and integrated teaching of appropriate thinking skills as part of course instruction.
